The war that led to the future collapse of the Soviet Union
Today we are going to talk about ASEAN countries and secret missions in the Soviet-Afghan war.
In this war, another ASEAN member country was involved, namely Indonesia.

The question is, how do they help the Mujahideen?
Let's take a look today.
The story takes place in the early 1980s when Lieutenant General Leonardus Benjamin Moerdani
An Indonesian Catholic intelligence officer has been sent to Islamabad, Pakistan.
Along with a number of high-ranking military officers to meet with General Akhtar Abdur Rahman.
Head of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)
During the talks, Pakistan requested Indonesia to support the Mujahideen in terms of medical equipment and medicine.
And above all, it's the "weapon".
At that time, everyone
The Indonesian military has a large number of Soviet-style weapons and equipment.
It stemmed from the good relations between the Sukarno government and the Soviet government.
This is what affects the Indonesian military's doctrine, making it accept the doctrine and weapons of the Soviet Union.

There is a clear tendency to oppose communism.
Decreased the relationship between the two
Back in Islamabad, after receiving a request for support from Indonesia, Lt. Gen. Moerdani has responded to Pakistan's request.
But the arms and equipment support from Indonesia to the Mujahideen had to be made into a covert operation.
The Indonesian plan is to give weapons from their military warehouses to the Mujahideen.
Those weapons must be weapons produced in the Soviet Union, most of which are AK-47s.
Indonesia has been purchasing them since the 1960s for use in Trigora operations.
And of course those AK-47s.
It is also very much wanted by the Mujahideen group.
This was because the Mujahideen were able to seize ammunition from the Soviets and the Afghan army.
The collection process takes quite a long time, and the numbers must also be removed from the gun.
This was to conceal Indonesia's involvement in helping the Mujahideen.

By using humanitarian operations as a front, everyone
The practice began around June 1981.
The collected guns were packed into wooden crates, which were mixed with other crates containing medicines and consumer goods.
The crates were then loaded onto a Boeing 707, which flew from Jakarta to Diego Gracia Island in the Indian Ocean.

The convoy for transporting firearms is already on standby.
ISI agents delivered Indonesian weapons and supplies to the Mujahideen in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan.
which is a province that borders Pakistan.
No one knows how much Indonesian weapons played a role in the Soviet-Afghan war.
But it could be said that this was an Indonesian secret operation.
It can be said that it was very successful.
